Corscombe Running Group is a friendly, informal running community based in Corscombe and the surrounding West Dorset villages.
We meet for social runs through local lanes, trails, fields and footpaths, usually at the weekend. The emphasis is on getting outside, enjoying the countryside and running with other people rather than chasing times.
You do not need to be fast, experienced or particularly serious about running. If you can get your shoes on and come out, that is a good start.
The group grew from a simple idea: there are plenty of people locally who enjoy running, plenty of excellent countryside to run through, and no particular reason everyone needed to do it alone.
What began as a few local runners meeting up has gradually become a regular group, with people joining from Corscombe and neighbouring villages, members suggesting their own routes, and the occasional visitor coming along too.
We are still deliberately small, informal and community-based.
Nobody gets left behind.
Different paces are normal.
Stopping at the top of a hill is allowed.
Members are encouraged to suggest and lead routes.
The countryside is part of the experience, not just the backdrop.
The social bit afterwards can be just as important as the run.
We take the running seriously enough to look after each other, but not so seriously that we forget to enjoy it.
The village and surrounding countryside are a big part of the group’s identity.
Our runs take us past fields, woods, old lanes, standing stones, streams, farms and neighbouring villages. Some weeks we stay close to Corscombe; other weeks somebody takes us to a route they know elsewhere in West Dorset.
That local knowledge is one of the best parts of running together.
The group also gets involved in local events, supports members taking part in races and challenges, and is organising the first Corscombe Trail Races alongside the village fête in June 2027.
But the weekly social run remains the heart of the group.
