Most of our runs are around Corscombe and the surrounding villages, using a mixture of trails, bridleways, footpaths and quiet country lanes. A typical group run is around 5 km and about an hour, although the hills and mud occasionally have other ideas.
Routes are normally shared on Strava before a run so members can see the distance and elevation. They are a guide rather than a promise — rural paths change with the weather, farming, livestock and vegetation, and we adapt if we need to.
5.2 km | 133 m climb | Mixed road and trail
A member-designed route through the countryside around Corscombe. A good example of how members bring their own favourite local loops into the group.
5.9 km | 151 m climb | Hilly mixed route
A proper Corscombe up-and-over: climb out on the trail, enjoy the views, then come back down on the road. Around an hour for the group, depending on how long we spend regrouping at the top.
4.5 km | 111 m climb | Road and trail
A shorter hilly loop past one of Corscombe’s local landmarks. Plenty of climbing for the distance, with a good mix of village lanes and trail.
5.2 km | 126 m climb | Mostly trail
A roughly 5K countryside loop east of Corscombe, with a good mix of climbing and quieter trail sections. A good option when the group fancies more trail than road.
3.4 km | 55 m climb | Road and light trail
A short loop from the Lost Shoe Café, mixing village roads with a little trail. Ideal for a quicker run — especially when coffee afterwards is part of the plan.
4.9 km | 100 m climb | Mixed route
A pre-pub loop around Corscombe, designed to get us back in time for food and whatever is happening at the pub.
“A jog before steak and chips. Optional hill sprint.”
5.0 km | 42 m climb | Mostly road / permissive route
A much flatter change from our usual Corscombe hills, using local lanes and the permissive old railway. Every so often we take the group somewhere different when somebody has a local route worth sharing.
4.8 km | 42 m climb | Road and old railway
A member-created loop around the Cattistock area, using quiet lanes and part of the old railway line. A flatter away run and a nice change from the usual Corscombe hills.
These are the current planned courses for the 2027 Corscombe Trail Races. They’re shown here for anyone curious about the routes; full race information, entries and event updates are on our Trail Races page. Courses may still be adjusted if necessary before race day.
Approx. 11 km | 180 m climb | Trail and country lanes
The longer Corscombe Trail Race course heads north from the village towards Halstock before returning through the surrounding countryside. Expect a properly rural West Dorset mixture of trails, fields, lanes and hills.
Approx. 5 km | 59 m climb | Trail and mixed terrain
The shorter race stays closer to Corscombe while still giving runners a taste of the local trails and countryside. A compact rural course with enough climbing to remind you that Dorset is not particularly flat.
